Eucharistic Adoration

Thursdays 9:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
at St. Joseph Newman Center Chapel (when Bradley University is in session)

At the Last Supper Jesus took bread and wine and gave them to his disciples, saying, “take and eat; take and drink… this is my body and blood. Do this in remembrance of me.”

In obedience to this command of Jesus, Catholics continue to do this during Mass. We believe that the bread and wine consecrated at Communion become the Body and Blood of Jesus our Lord. Receiving the true Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist is a supreme gift and privilege, whereby the faithful are united more closely to God and one another.

The adoration of the Eucharistic Lord outside of Mass has arisen over the centuries in Catholic devotional practice. Jesus is worshiped in the form of a consecrated host placed in a special article for display called a Monstrance. Through adoration in this way, the faithful come quietly before the sacramental presence of Jesus with hearts that beg for Him, just as His heart begs for us.
